Earlier this year 2024, the non-governmental organization Sawa Wanawake Tanzania in the Morogoro Region progressed to build the capacity of teachers in pre and primary Schools through its project, the Tuwalinde Watoto Project.
The Chief facilitator of the training that took place at Leena pre-and Primary School in Morogoro Municipality, from the Childhood Development Organization – CDO located in Mvomero District, Innocent Rusomyo, explained the basis of the training to the primary education teachers.
“We have been invited as stakeholders in the childcare, development, and early development program, to build the capacity of these teachers, to be able to guide the children in the eight schools built by the Sawa Organization”
Innocent said that the training, which goes in line with the Early Childhood Education and Development Program (MMAM), also takes into account the Education Policy and its Curriculum on the methods of teaching Early Education.
“These teachers are guided by the 2014 education policy and the 2016 pre-primary education curriculum, so what do the policies, and the curriculum tell them to do for children who have not yet started standard one”
On the part of the teacher who received the training from the Mvomero District Council, he explained the importance of the training.
“First of all, I thank God for this training, I can see that I was very behind academically, my students do not even know Kiswahili, they speak Maasai, Sukuma, and Kigogo, at the moment I am going to improve my class so that it can speak to make it easier for students to understand me,” said Joyce Ronard Matemba who teaches Mbugani pre-School.
Another teacher Victor Pasfiki Paulo from the Lusanga Educational Center, Msongozi School in the Mvomero District Council, said “Before the training, we did not have integrated methods to teach all groups, but now we know for example, there are those who learn by sight, hearing and writing, so if I teach number One, I write it down by sand, the blind will touch and understand, the sighted will read and the hearing ones will understand and the sightless will touch the letter, so I will be successful”
