Zanzibar,

The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said that from now on, the Government will compensate citizens who give up their land for development projects with better houses.

President Dr. Mwinyi has informed that, the Government is committed to the fundamental responsibility of ensuring that citizens have access to better housing.

President Dr. Mwinyi said this on 23 November 2024, when he launched the Sale of Chumbuni Houses Project, built by the Zanzibar Housing Corporation, at the Amani Hotel Conference Hall, West Urban Region.

In addition, President Dr. Mwinyi informed that these efforts have been continuous in different phases, beginning after the January 1964 Revolution under the leadership of the late Abeid Aman Karume.

Dr. Mwinyi assured the citizens that the Government will continue to seek more funds to develop major housing construction projects in various areas.

However, President Dr. Mwinyi expressed his satisfaction with the speed of the Housing Corporation’s performance so far as it has been implementing productive projects instead of addressing the Housing Crisis for a long time.

Giving a Technical Report on the Project, Sultan Said, the Director General of the Zanzbar Housing Corporation, explained that the Project implements the CCM Manifesto for 2020-2025 to strengthen residential houses.

He added that the Chumbuni Project will have 3000 houses, and the Corporation intends to develop major Strategic Back Construction projects in the areas of Kikwajuni, Kwa Mchina Unguja, Kisakasaka, and Mabaoni Mfikiwa Pemba.
